I worked on the Puer painting series for years, and my work on it was inspired on and dedicated to the image of the child. I have always seemed to explore art by means of elaborating series of works, and following a constant work-direction concept over a period of time. I am interested in working with the image of the infant for various reasons and understand that it is one of the most powerful and influential icons in our Western Society.
I started exploring the use of oil paints on very slick satin-like heavy cardboard paper years ago. And I still try out ideas and certain images on this paper, mainly now with water based oil paints that are no so toxic to use directly with your hands on paper. This oil base paint let’s you work for a long time on the surface with gloves and I use palette knives to spread the colors and gestures on the paper’s surface. The toxic smells of older oil paints has almost disappeared and that gives you more freedom to work with this medium.
