I studied printmaking from 2005 to 2010 at the ‘Escola de arts i offcis’ in Barcelona with a great master printmaker Jordi Catafal. We covered most of all the traditional printing processes but I seemed to gravitate towards Etching and Aquatint. Sometimes Drypoint too. I also took two added courses in silkscreen and burin-engraving printmaking techniques that were fascinating.
I had the opportunity to work on a very dynamic project at the Self Help Graphics Studio in Los Angeles in 2003 with master printer Jose Alpuche. The Visiting Artists Project. Mr. Alpuche assisted me and another invited artist in the production of a series of works that the center offers to artists from all over the world. We were helped with the creation of a series of silkscreen prints for two days at their workshop; the Self Help Graphics got to keep five prints chosen by them after the two day project.
This intense technical experience consisted of all day work sessions for two consecutive days and I was able to created a large series inspired on the recent war in Iraq that I titled ‘Us and Them’.
