My sketching works are done almost always on travels and mainly in museums as copies of master’s painting and drawings. Contrary to contemporary art’s faithful dogma about ‘originality’ I still consider that copying from another artist’s work, as a learning and inspiring experience, is a way to hone and temper your own creative character. Your technique, it’s expressive pulse, will always come through when you copy the masters… Sketching in museums is an intense experience physically and creatively and ‘let’s you in’ on a lot of quiet artistic secrets of artists long gone but still soulfully present in those strangely mute works.
